Multiple seller apps on the network who are major players in the food and beverages sector on ONDC told Economic Times that they saw orders peak on Saturday like never before.

The government’s ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) platform received a record 65,400 retail orders during the India vs Pakistan World Cup match on October 14 (Saturday), as reported by The Economic Times. This was also the highest number of retail order registered by ONDC in a single day.

According to the report, the orders were placed from a total of 600 cities. These five cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad — placed maximum orders from ONDC. On the match day, Delhi placed 7,852 orders, Bengaluru 7,586, Mumbai 3,770, Pune 3,729, Hyderabad 3,231, Jaipur 2,013, Thane 1,763, and Gurugram 1,732.

Multiple seller apps on the network who are major players in the food and beverages sector on ONDC told Economic Times that they saw orders peak on Saturday like never before.

In terms of categories, food and beverage accounted for 47 per cent of the orders, fashion 25 per cent, electronics nine per cent, grocery eight per cent, home and kitchenware seven per cent, beauty and personal care three per cent, and health and wellness one per cent.

The report revealed that cricket match, eve of Navratri, discounts, weekend, and multiple buyer apps played a key role.

ONDC is an open technology network platform that allows buyers and sellers to connect and transact with each other online, regardless of what other applications they use.

The buyers and sellers do not have to use the same platform or same mobile app to have a transaction. They can use different applications and still do business transactions.

The benefits of ONDC include access to more buyers; better discoverability of products and cost; autonomy on terms because of multiple choices for being digitally visible; lower cost of doing business; and more options for value chain services like logistics and fulfilment.
