NEET PG 2023 Counselling Cut-Off Reduction Confirmed by NMC Official: Report
IMA and FORDA have advocated for a cutoff mark reduction of up to 30% so that the majority of seats in both the clinical and non-clinical branches can be filled

There will soon be a decrease in the NEET PG 2023 Cut-Off, suggests Dr Harish Gupta, a National Medical Commission (NMC) member. This development was confirmed in a recent report by the Indian Express. However, no precise date for the implementation of this revision has been provided. Gupta informed indianexpress.com about the potential reduction in cutoff scores and made sure to emphasise that the quality of medical education will not be affected by this change.

According to reports, Gupta went on to reassure that reducing the NEET PG 2023 cutoff will not reduce the quality of medical education or healthcare services. The rigorous MBBS course serves as a solid basis for the postgraduate programmes, which are also in line with the demands of the country in terms of healthcare.

Numerous medical organisations, notably the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), have been pushing for a revision in the NEET PG cutoff over the past couple of weeks. These organisations have advocated for a potential cutoff mark reduction of up to 30 per cent so that the majority of seats in both the clinical and non-clinical branches can be filled up.

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test Post Graduate (NEET PG ) Cut-Off is currently set at 50 per cent for general/unreserved category students, 45 per cent for students with disabilities (PwD), and 40 per cent for students who belong to other reserved groups. The NMC is yet to announce how much the Cut-Off threshold will be adjusted or when it will be put into effect.

On the microblogging site ‘X’ (previously known as Twitter), the Indian Medical Association (IMA) posted a copy of the letter they submitted to the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare on September 13. A reduction in the NEET PG 2023 cutoff marker was requested by IMA in the letter. In order to ensure that there are no vacant postgraduate seats, the IMA emphasised how this revision would allow a sizable number of prospective physicians to join postgraduate programmes at various medical institutions around the nation.

The NEET PG counselling is being conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee, which has delayed the release of the round 3 seat allotment results. Results of the third round of allocation were scheduled to be released on September 16. MCC is anticipated to provide an official confirmation about the declaration of the third-round seat allocation results.
