Shah Rukh Khan Says He Agreed to Do Munna Bhai MBBS but THIS Stopped Him: 'I Had a Sudden...'

Shah Rukh Khan worked with Rajkumar Hirani in Dunki. However, the filmmaker offered two big movies in the past but due to various reasons, Shah Rukh couldn’t be a part of them. It is no secret that Munna Bhai MBBS was first offered to SRK. The actor had to pass on the role to Sanjay Dutt and it became one of his most iconic roles. Shah Rukh was then offered 3 Idiots but had to pass it to Aamir Khan. The film is another cult film among the present generation.

In a new interview, Shah Rukh finally opened up about the reason he had to give the movies a pass. Speaking with Saudi Arabian platform MBC Group, Shah Rukh revealed that he passed on Munna Bhai due to his shoulder injury while 3 Idiots was clashing with another film he was working on. “Actually, we’re very old friends. When he started his career as a director – he was an editor – he wrote a film called Munna Bhai MBBS. I still remember, I was shooting a scene for Devdas, in which I was going to pass away. And this gentleman came and said, ‘I have a script’,” Shah Rukh recalled.

“I said, ‘Okay, let’s meet day after tomorrow, I’m doing this film next’. He said, ‘You haven’t heard it’. I said, ‘I love the title, it’s a fantastic title, Munna Bhai MBBS’. We were supposed to do that film, we sat on it for six-seven months. But I had a sudden injury, I had a spine surgery, and they didn’t know when I would recover,” he added.

Opening up about 3 Idiots, Shah Rukh said, “Again there was a timing issue. We worked on the script, we did the casting together. But there was a timing issue, one of my films got delayed, I had a setback with another injury… I told him to finish it off. It was a very ambitious project, 3 Idiots, so I said, ‘You can’t have an actor coming from one film and going to another, so you please go ahead and do this’. So, that one didn’t happen.”

Both the films eventually became blockbusters. Shah Rukh and Raju finally collaborated for Dunki. The film has recorded good box office collection. The film has collected over Rs 130 crore net in India within a few days of its release.
