Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde laid the foundation of the Mumbai Metro Line-12 (Kalyan-Taloja) at Dombivli’s Premier Ground on Sunday.
The Kalyan-Taloja stretch (Line-12) is the extension of the Mumbai Metro line 5, the Orange line. The extension will reduce travel time between Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai.
This expansion was proposed to provide hassle-free access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Metro Line-12 will pass through the Kalyan Lok Sabha seat, the constituency held by CM Shinde’s son Shrikant Shinde.
All About Mumbai Metro Line-12 –
- The 22.173-kilometre stretch will have 19 elevated stations.
- The estimated cost of the completion of the project is around Rs 5,865 crore.
- The expected daily ridership on the line is over 2.50 lakh.
- The project is estimated to be complete by December 2027.
- Once it becomes operational the Kalyan-Dombivli-Taloja line will benefit the commuters from Kalyan-Dombivli, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Badlapur Thane, Navi Mumbai and Panvel.
- Travel time between Kalyan and Taloja will be reduced to 45 minutes.
- According to an Indian Express report, the integration of Metro Line-12 with Navi Mumbai Metro Line is also proposed at Navi Mumbai Metro station to ensure smooth connectivity between Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli.
- The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is expected to operate 3-coach or 6-coach trains on this line depending on the number of commuters and demand.
- The extended route passes through City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) areas, therefore, these neighbourhoods will have better opportunities for development in the future.
