Mohammed Shami reached the milestone of fifty wickets in the Cricket World Cup during the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.
The Indian pacer also became the fastest bowler, in terms of innings as well as deliveries, to reach the landmark. In fact, the 33-year-old first Indian to take 30 wickets in World Cup matches and is the seventh bowler overall after Glenn McGrath, Muttiah Muralitharan, Starc, Lasith Malinga, Wasim Akram and Trent Boult.

Shami went on to complete his five-wicket haul, as he dismissed Daryl Mitchell, to take his fifer haul to four, on more than Australia’s Mitchell Starc, and now is the leading bowler in terms of most five-wicket hauls in World Cups.
As he picked up the wicket of Tim Southee, Shami became the second Indian, after Ashish Nehra, to take 6 wickets in a World Cup match.
With the wicket of Lockie Ferguson, to end the game with seven wickets, the best bowling figures by an Indian in a World Cup game as India defeated New Zealand by 70 runs and booked their place in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final.
