Mumbai Police on Wednesday received a threat ahead of the high-octane first ICC World Cup semi-final between India and New Zealand scheduled at Wankhede Stadium.
The threat was made to Police over Twitter by an unidentified individual. The X, formerly Twitter, user tagged Mumbai Police, sharing photos depicting a gun, a hand grenade, and bullets. IND vs NZ Live Updates Here
Mumbai Crime Branch detained a 17-year-old youth from Latur district over the threat. Why did he post the threat message is yet to be ascertained, an official said.
First semi-final match of the Cricket World Cup 2023 is taking place at Wankhede Stadium of Mumbai today amid heavy security. “Proper security measures are being made in south Mumbai, all vehicles entering this area are being checked. We have deployed around seven DCPs, 200 police officials for this game,” a Mumbai Police official said on security arrangement for India vs New Zealand World Cup semifinal clash at Wankhede Stadium.

Additionally, a picture accompanied by a message implying intentions to cause disruption during the match was also posted.
This is latest in the series of threats Mumbai has been receiving over the past few months. Just recently, two people were arrested by Mumbai Police for allegedly giving death threats to industrialist Mukesh Ambani. One accused was arrested from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, another from Telangana.
On September 6, Mumbai police control room received two threat calls. The first call was made by a youngster against a commercial sex worker from Kamathipura saying that she is carrying bomb. The accused was arrested at Nagpada police station.
The second call was by a 42-year-old woman, who had called the control room and informed that there was a bomb near her house.
