Alka Yagnik is recognised as one of the greatest singers in the history of Indian cinema, credited with vocalising some of the most iconic songs in Bollywood. Her love story is not less than the plot of a film with a happy ending. Despite being one of the most popular names in the country, Alka Yagnik chooses to keep her personal life private. For the unversed, the singer is married to businessman Neeraj Kapoor; the couple has a daughter named Syesha Kapoor. The story of how the two came to be is one for the films.
According to the reports, Alka Yagnik met Neeraj Kapoor for the first time on a train. While travelling, they struck up a friendship and decided to stay in touch. Even though the two were in entirely different professions respectively, they kept on meeting and eventually developed an affection for each other in six months of their friendship. In 1989, the two tied the knot after being in a relationship for two years.
To reach the point of marriage, it was not an easy path for the couple. So, when Alka Yagnik revealed her relationship with Neeraj to her parents, they did not want her to marry him. Since Neeraj Kapoor was a Shillong-based businessman, her parents believed that the long-distance relationship between the two could turn into a major obstacle in their married life. Alka did not lose faith and remained confident, as Neeraj had decided to shift his base to Mumbai.
When they got married, Neeraj shifted to Mumbai and started his business. As per reports, he experienced big losses at the place. In an old interview, Alka revealed that she herself told Neeraj to shift back to Shillong and continue his business. After four-five years of their marriage, the two reportedly went through a tough phase in their married life, but the two realised they cannot live without each other. For the last 28 years, Neeraj Kapoor and Alka Yagnik have maintained a long-distance marriage.
