Sampath Kumar, popularly known as Vishnuvardhan, is a well-known name in the Kannada film industry. The late actor worked in about 200 feature films, the majority of which were in Kannada, while others were in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi. According to reports, Vishnuvardhan had a bracelet in his hand in every film. The 1981 movie Guru Shishyaru was the only movie in which he had not worn his favourite bracelet. For Vishnuvardhan, this bracelet was an inseparable part of himself.

Vishnuvardhan used to wear the bracelet as a style. But there is an interesting story related to his bracelet. Reports suggest that Vishnuvardhan once went to Bidar, Karnataka. There, he visited one of the gurdwaras, and one of the gurus there gave him this bracelet. Vishnuvardhan, who came with that bracelet, initially kept it in the house temple, but did not worship it like everyone else.

Later, he decided to wear that bracelet on his right hand. Vishnuvardhan believed that the bracelet came to him in the form of God’s blessing. After this, he started wearing this bracelet in every movie. In 1980, Vishnuvardhan wore a bangle for the first time in the movie Simha Jodi. After Vishnuvardhan’s death, his daughter Kirti kept this bracelet with her.

Vishnuvardhan made his acting debut in 1971 with the movie Vamsha Vriksha. The movie was directed by Girish Karnad. He shot to fame after he portrayed his versatility in every movie. He became quite famous for also portraying dual or triple roles in the movies, which left his fans and viewers in awe of his acting skills.

Vishnuvardhan was last seen in the movie Aptharakshaka, directed by P Vasu, where he was seen for the last time in a double role. The film was released in 2010, following his death in 2009.

Vishnuvardhan also received seven Filmfare Awards South — six Best Actor and one Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award — South, three Cinema Express Awards for Best Actor, and eight Karnataka State Film Awards — seven Best Actor and one Dr Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award.
