Rajesh Khanna, also known as Kaka, is said to be the first superstar of Hindi cinema. He holds the record for being the only actor who has given 15 consecutive solo super-hit movies, all within a two-year period of 1969 and 1971. Some of his popular movies include Aradhana, Kati Patang, Anand, Amar Prem, and Bawarchi. The actor was known for his charismatic screen presence and his image as a romantic hero. Apart from Bollywood, he has also worked in many South remakes in his film career. Whatever South remake he worked on, it was almost certain to be a hit. Rajesh Khanna also got acquainted with many South actors, and one of them is Kamal Haasan. As per reports, Rajesh Khanna was an admirer of Kamal Haasan and loved watching his films. Kamal Haasan also respected Rajesh Khanna a lot. In an earlier interview, Kamal Haasan shared an anecdote related to Rajesh Khanna, which is currently garnering everyone’s attention. Kamal Haasan said that once both of them were in trouble.
According to Kamal, they both used to meet often and discuss cinema. Once, when he was in Chennai, he thought of showing Rajesh Khanna an American movie, The Swarm. He did not tell him that they were both going to a theatre located in the centre of the city.
Kamal further said, “When we reached there, Rajesh Khanna came to know that we had come to watch a film in a theatre full of audience. Ever since he became a superstar, he has not gone to any public theatre. On my request, he started watching the movie in the theatre. The theatre was dark, so there was no problem. We enjoyed the film.’
According to Kamal, when the film was about to end, he started feeling a little nervous. He felt that if people recognised Rajesh Khanna, then there would be trouble. So he told Rajesh Khanna that we should leave the theatre before the end of the film.
Kamal further said that Rajesh Khanna rejected his suggestion and enjoyed the film till the end. After this, what he feared happened. People recognised Rajesh Khanna, and then a commotion started to touch and see their favourite actor. Kamal Haasan got very nervous after seeing this situation.
But he tried to protect Rajesh Khanna like a bodyguard so that he did not get hurt or mobbed. With great difficulty, they both left the theatre and reached the car. During this time, Rajesh Khanna’s shirt got torn. In the end, Rajesh Khanna was laughing like a child at this whole situation.
