Anuradha Paudwal, a veteran playback singer, was one of the Hindi film industry’s prominent female voices in the 1980s and 1990s. The veteran singer made her singing debut in the 1973 film Abhimaan, starring Amitabh Bachchan.

Anuradha Paudwal had grown so successful once that many began comparing her to legendary vocalist Lata Mangeshkar, who had ruled the Indian music industry since the 1950s. Her voice was among the most popular voices, and she sang many superhit songs as well. In an interview, the veteran singer revealed an interesting fact about the 1990 superhit album Aashiqui.

Anuradha Paudwal said that before the making of Aashiqui, the album was created. The film was produced by Gulshan Kumar. He had the music for the song, and he went to various lyricists for the words. The singer added that once she and Gulshan Kumar became so furious when one of the lyricists used double-meaning words to make the music. This angered them a lot, as it changed the essence of the music. Later, the lyrics of the music were written by Sameer, Rani Mallik and Madan Pal collectively. The songs were a huge hit and are still popular today. Most of the songs on the album were sung by Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal. Nadeem-Shravan’s music won many accolades as well.

The veteran singer added that it was initially difficult to find a director for the film. Later, Mahesh Bhatt got on board and decided to direct it. Aashiqui went on to become one of the most successful films in Bollywood. It starred Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal in the lead roles.

Talking about Anuradha Paudwal, the singer has won many awards, including the National Film Award and Padma Shri, for her contribution to the field of the arts. After working for many years in Bollywood, she decided to quit it after the tragic death of Gulshan Kumar. Later, she ventured into devotional singing and sang many popular bhajans as well. Currently, she is also engaged in social work and has a foundation named the Suryodaya Foundation.
