Lara Dutta, far from being a damsel in distress, recently recounted an episode from her debut film days when she had to forcefully confront a man in the audience who inappropriately pinched her. This incident took place during the music launch of her first movie, ‘Andaaz,’ which she attended alongside Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar.
In a conversation with Hauterrfly, Lara discussed the event that occurred in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk. “During my first film, Andaaz, Priyanka, Akshay and me, all three of us went to Delhi. I think it was somewhere in Chandni Chowk, there used to be a place called Rhythm House which was the venue for our music release. It was my first film, it was my first time as an actress and I was wearing a saree that day,” she shared.
Lara explained that the venue was crowded because it hosted Akshay Kumar, Miss World Priyanka Chopra, and herself, the Miss Universe at the time. “Someone in the crowd sneaked in their hand and pinched me on my waist. I almost had some intuition, maybe this was military training, that you can sense that something is wrong. The moment that hand came in, I held that hand and I pulled out that guy from the crowd,” she recounted.
According to Lara, the man fell to the ground and she did not hold back in her response. “I was in a saree and I thrashed him like anything. Akshay got worried and he had to physically pull me back. He said ‘what are you doing? You are an actress, you can’t do this,” she remembered.
Additionally, Lara emphasized in the interview that she has always been fiercely independent and never considered herself a damsel in distress. She also spoke about her experiences living alone in Mumbai from the age of 17, highlighting how she found the city to be relatively safe for women.
Lara Dutta recently left her fans intrigued and excited as she shared a tantalising teaser of her upcoming OTT project, Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond. In the 20-second clip, the atmosphere is charged with suspense from the very beginning. The teaser opens with a powerful blast amidst the mountains, where two cars collide. Amidst the gripping visuals, the teaser also showcases fighter planes soaring through the skies in formation. The ending sets the scene for a story that goes beyond the obvious and delves into significant events.
Interestingly, Lara herself wasn’t featured in the teaser, keeping the audience intrigued about her role. The series also features Jimmy Shergill, Ashutosh Rana, and Elnaaz Norouzi in lead roles. The show releases today.
On the professional front, apart from Santosh Singh’s Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond, Lara Dutta will also be seen in Avishek Ghosh’s Suryast, where she’ll be sharing the frame with the actress Patralekhaa Paul. The story revolves around the intricate tale of two women who entangle themselves in an elaborate mind game of cat and mouse.
