Was Silent For A Minute: Mithun Chakraborty On Being Conferred With Padma Bhushan
A video of Mithun Chakraborty receiving the Padma Bhushan award from President Draupadi Murmu is currently going viral.

On April 22, President Draupadi Murmu gave Padma Awards to numerous recipients at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Dignitaries who have performed remarkably in various fields of the country were honoured.

This included persons in the field of art and cinema. Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was honoured with the Padma Bhushan award, the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India, preceded by the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan. A video of Mithun Chakraborty receiving the award from President Draupadi Murmu is currently going viral on social media.

Mithun Chakraborty expressed his happiness at being chosen for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award. A video of him talking about the achievement is also doing the rounds on social media.

Mithun Chakraborty said, “I am very happy. I have never asked anything for myself from anyone in my life. When I received a call from the Home Ministry informing me that I was being awarded the Padma Bhushan, I was silent for a minute because I had not expected it.”

He added that winning something that you have not expected makes the win way more satisfying. Mithun Chakraborty and other recipients of the Padma awards had dinner with the Home Ministry after the win. Before the dinner ceremony, he was asked whether there would be any political discussion since the Lok Sabha elections were on in the country. The actor said that it was unlikely that there would be any political discussion at the event.

Mithun Chakraborty is one of the very few actors who received a National Award for their first film. He won the award for his debut film Mrigaya which was released in 1977. Mithun’s 1982 film Disco Dancer had become almost a global phenomenon doing extremely well across Asia, the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa. Disco Dancer was also the second-highest-grossing film ever in the Soviet Union and the highest-grossing foreign film. The veteran actor is a very well-known figure in the erstwhile Soviet Union and Russia.
