Vasan Bala Feels He Let Alia Bhatt Down With Jigra's Box Office Performance: 'She Trusted Me...'
Vasan Bala said that he feels responsible for Jigra's performance at the box office. The director said that he wanted to analyse what went wrong with the action thriller.

Starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, Vasan Bala’s Jigra was one of the most-anticipated releases of the year. However, the film did not perform well at the box office and it found itself in several controversies after its release. In a recent interview, the director said that he wanted to analyze what went wrong with Jigra.

In a conversation with Fever FM, Vasan Bala opened up about the failure of Jigra. The movie has been named Alia Bhatt’s ‘lowest box office opener’ as of now. The director said that he felt that he had let Bhatt down with the outcome of the film. He said, “She is the first choice for everyone. She could have been on any other film set, but Jigra, during that time. So she has to make that choice. And she has trusted me with that choice. So it is my responsibility to deliver box office because we are in the business of filmmaking also.”

Bala said that he wanted to analyze what went wrong with Jigra. He continued, “So which is why I need to analyse. Kuch toh hua hai na (Something has happened, right)? Something has happened where people have stayed away, something that they have not bought, something that they didn’t feel the need to come to the theatre. If at all any other actor decides to give their time, his or her, then you know, make it worth it.”

Jigra earned Rs 4.55 crore on its opening day in India. As reported by Sacnilk, the movie has earned Rs 27.30 crores so far. The movie also found itself in a series of controversies after its release. Divya Khossla called out the makers for manipulating box office numbers and for plagiarising from her film, Savi. Additionally, Manipur actor Bijou Thaangjam also accused the makers of discrimination and ‘unprofessional behaviour.’

The movie was backed by Dharma Productions and it was presented by Viacom18 Studios and Eternal Sunshine Productions. It revolves around a sister who leaves no stone unturned to rescue her brother from a prison abroad.
