In December 2023, Twinkle Khanna marked her 50th birthday. Recently, the actor-turned-author, who is married to Akshay Kumar, posted a video on Instagram. In the video, she is seen applying red lipstick while commenting on society’s reaction to women over 50 wearing bold lip colors. Twinkle paused during her makeup routine and showed a middle finger towards the camera with the ‘ew, brother ew, what’s that’ meme playing in the background.

Not long back, Twinkle had also talked about balancing different roles as a woman. She pointed out that despite advocating for equality in marriage, household tasks like cooking, house chores and childcare still often fall on women’s shoulders. Twinkle, who is married to actor Akshay Kumar, shared these thoughts during a conversation with Faye D’Souza on Tweak India.
“We’re women who think that we are fairly progressive, and yet, this food, the house, the curtains, the diapers – it’s still our job, along with having a full-time job. What have we done to ourselves? Feminism has come and bitten us in the a**. I was this big flag bearer of equality. But equality has meant double the work. It’s not okay. So I’m equal; you will treat me with respect, but I’m doing double of everything. It’s tough either way,” she said, adding, “It’s tough if you don’t work because then, there are other consequences of that. There’s a certain independence that you enjoy when you are working because you feel a little bit like saying, ‘Okay, I’m bringing this much to the table, so I have a right to sit at this table.’”
