Sometimes, love thrives on differences, and couple Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad embody that idea perfectly. They shared how their love story blossomed and led to their marriage despite too many differences, from their social backgrounds to caste. Swara and Fahad tied the knot in February of last year. In a recent episode of the podcast Couple of Things, hosted by actor Amrita Rao and her RJ husband Anmol, Swara and Fahad opened up about their first encounter in December 2019, where they realised they had not a single point of commonality.
Fahad said, “There was linguistic difference. Her mother was a professor at JNU, her father was a respected Naval officer, who would also write columns for English newspapers. In my house, no one had even passed 10th standard. I was the first guy who got the opportunity to study and I did my PhD from Tata Institute.”
“There was an urban-rural divide. I come from a small part–which isn’t even a district– of Bareilly city. Even our religion is different. I am a pasmanda Muslim, which comes under OBC, she is a Brahmin. The only thing common was our sexual orientation, we both are straight. We have crossed all barriers, of caste, religion, cities-villages, class. It is challenging, but full of fun,” he added.
He pointed out the urban-rural divide between them, explaining that he comes from a small area in Bareilly that isn’t even a district. They also have different religions — he is a pasmanda Muslim, while she is a Brahmin. “I am a pasmanda Muslim, which comes under OBC, she is a Brahmin. The only thing common was our sexual orientation, we both are straight. We have crossed all barriers, of caste, religion, cities-villages, class. It is challenging, but full of fun,” he added.
At this point, Swara said, “There is one more difference. I am older than him!” Fahad quipped that Swara always reveals this bit to people, but he is fine as there is “nothing to hide”.
Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad have a daughter named Raabiya.
