Sathyaraj On Rumours About Acting In PM Modi Biopic: 'Nobody Has Approached Me'

Actor Sathyaraj, who played the role of Katappa in Baahubali movies, is a well-known star of South Indian cinema. These days, he is in the headlines after the rumours of playing the role of PM Narendra Modi in a biographical drama. The news of this went viral on social media a few days ago.

The actor denied the rumours during the teaser launch of the movie Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan which was held at Vadapalani Prasad Label in Chennai. Starring Vijay Antony in the lead role, the film is written and directed by Vijay Milton.

Sathyaraj said, “The news that I am acting in the Prime Minister Modi biopic is news even to me. Nobody has approached me to play PM Modi in the film. Even if they do…I may have acted in it if it were directed by my friend, the late director Manivannan, who used to show characters as they were.” The actor added that if Vijay Milton directed the film, it would convey the truth. He also said that he would be okay if the film was made by filmmakers like Pa. Ranjith, Vetrimaaran and Mari Selvaraj. The actor also confirmed his role in Sathyaraj’s Coolie, opposite Rajinikanth, during the event.

The news about Sathyaraj playing PM Modi began when publicist Nikil Murukan shared the news on the social media handle X, saying, “Sathyaraj to act as Narendra Modi in Honourable PM Narendra Modi Biopic.”

Earlier in 2017, he played the role of Tamil leader Periyar in his biopic, who fought against gender and caste inequality in Tamil Nadu. As a self-described supporter of Periyarists, Sathyaraj once said that he would not appear in a movie that promotes ideologies against Periyarism.

Previous to this, Vivek Oberoi played the role of PM Modi in the PM Narendra Modi biopic. The film was directed by Omung Kumar and written by Anirudh Chawla and Vivek Oberoi.

Sathyaraj is awaiting the release of his upcoming Tamil film Weapon. Directed by Guhan Senniappan, the film is set to release in theatres on June 7. He plays the role of a superhuman in the film. The film also stars Rajiv Menon, Sathyaraj and Tanya Hope in the main roles.
