Ridley Scott‘s Gladiator is one of the most loved films of all time. The movie not only earned Russell Crowe an Oscar for playing General Maximus Decimus Meridius but also captured the hearts of the audiences with its gripping storyline. Now, Gladiator 2 is set to hit theatres this November. While fans are eagerly waiting for its release, Russell Crowe is “slightly uncomfortable” with the concept. Speaking candidly in a recent interview, he admitted to feeling “jealous” while also reflecting on the success of the original one.

While speaking with Kyle Meredith, the Oscar-winning actor shared, “I’m slightly uncomfortable with the fact they’re making another one — because, of course, I’m dead and I have no say in what gets done. But a couple of the things I’ve heard I’m like, ‘No, no, no, that’s not in the moral journey of that particular character’. But I can’t say anything, it’s not my place, I’m six foot under. So we’ll see what that is like.”

The Les Misérables actor went on to add, “This is just me being purely honest: there’s definitely a tinge of melancholy, a tinge of jealousy. I remember when I had tendons.”

Gladiator 2 is scheduled for a November 22 release. In this new chapter, Paul Mescal takes on the lead role of adult Lucius, the nephew of the villainous Commodus. Speaking about the film last year in an interview with Esquire Mescal shared that the sequel is well-written and pays homage to the first one. However, he was confident enough to step into the role saying, “I can step into and make comfortably my own.”

Backed by Ridley along with Doug Wick, Michael Pruss and Lucy Fisher, Gladiator 2 will also star Denzel Washington along with Pedro Pascal in the primary roles. Besides, Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi will also reprise their roles.

With Ridley Scott, who also directed the original 2000 film, coming on board to helm the most anticipated project, fans can expect the same visionary style and storytelling displayed in the first film, making it a timeless classic.
