Actress and director Revathy made her acting debut in Tamil with Mann Vaasanai (1983). Almost two decades later, she made her directorial debut with Mitr – My Friend (2002). Despite receiving accolades for her acting performance in Tamil cinema, including a National Award for Best Supporting Actor for Thevar Magan, Revathy has never directed anything in Tamil.
However, that is all set to change with her latest announcement about her upcoming project. Revathy revealed on her social media that she will be directing a Tamil web series for Disney+ Hotstar.
Sharing a photo of the director’s copy of the upcoming series, Revathy wrote, “So happy to get back to being the Director! A Tamil series for Hotstar with Siddharth Ramaswamy as co-director and cinematographer. 1st day shoot on 5th Oct. The energy is different as a director… I love it!!!”.
Siddharth, who is known for his work in films like Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Aravaan, had previously collaborated with the streamer for the series Fall (2022), which starred Anjali. This will be his second collaboration with Disney+ Hotstar as a director.
Revathy, last seen in the third instalment of Salman Khan’s spy franchise Tiger, has directed five films, including Salaam Venky (2022), starring Kajol and Vishal Jethwa. It will also be the first time she will direct a web series and her first collaboration with the streamer. She recently made headlines for winning the Kerala State Award for her role in the horror film Bhoothakalam (2022).
Revathy made her acting debut in 1983 with the Tamil film Mann Vasanai. The film was a Silver Jubilee hit. She won a Filmfare Special Award – South. She made her Malayalam film debut in 1983 with the film Kattathe Kilikkoodu. This film was also a box office hit and was one of her biggest hits of the 1980s. She rose to prominence in the Telugu film industry in 1984 with the films Seethamma Pelli, directed by Bapu and Manasa Veena. Revathy played the blind rape survivor Seetha in Mahendran’s Kai Kodukkum Kai (1984) opposite Rajinikanth. Revathy played Seetha in Pudhumai Penn (1984) directed by Bharathiraja. In the same year, she also acted in Vaidehi Kathirunthal, directed by R Sundarrajan.
