Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World 2000 when she was 18 and she has been working in the industry ever since. In a recent interview, the actor’s mother – Madhu Chopra – talked about how the family dealt with the media attention initially. She also mentioned how the media attention and the negative things written about Priyanka affected them.
In a conversation with Breaking Stereotypes, Madhu Chopra recalled how they were not prepared for media attention as they came from a non-filmy background. She mentioned how they did not anticipate the negativity that would come their way. She said, “We were very new, and we came from another industry. We were both doctors and the film industry was absolutely new to us. We had stars in our eyes and we didn’t think of it as a hell hole. Such negative things didn’t even come to our mind when we came here.”

Madhu mentioned how the attention started impacting them when negative articles about Priyanka started making waves. She recalled how Priyanka sat her down and explained things to her. Madhu continued, “Then we saw the dirt in it and we would feel the pain during the beginning but Priyanka sat us down and told us, ‘Mom, you know me best. So why believe all that rubbish?’ After that everything became alright.”
