Manichitrathazhu, a Malayalam cinema classic is gearing up for a 4K re-release, thirty years after its official debut in the theatres. One of the main leads of the film, actress Shobana, interacted with the media on July 30, after watching the 4K version of the release.
As per reports, the actress watched the film at a preview theatre in Chennai and expressed her views on the release. She stated, “Watching the film after it has been restored has been a completely new experience for me.” She added that many people have told her that they have watched the film over a hundred times. But for her, it was only the third or fourth time of experiencing the film at a theatre. The actress added, “It was a fantastic experience for me.”
Mentioning the crew behind the film, she shelled praises towards their hard work and called them “master technicians.” She said, “Fazil sir, who created this film, is a genius. Even when we are watching it today, the film does not feel outdated.” Shobana added how the film’s dialogues are still immensely popular across Kerala as well as on social media.
Shobana was then asked about the several remakes of the Malayalam classic given birth, in different languages and whether she has watched any. She answered, “I, unfortunately, have not watched any of the remakes except the one in Hindi, Bhool Bhulaiyaa.” Speaking further she revealed that Priyadarshan, the Hindi remake’s director, also worked on the original and knew how to go forth with it.
Manichitrathazhu is made under the direction of Fazil and written by Madhu Muttam. The cast of the film includes Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi and Shobana as the leads, along with Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Vinaya Prasad and many others. It is produced by Swargachitra Appachan under the banner of Swargachitra Release. Reportedly, the film’s 4K remastered version is set to hit theatres on August 17.
