Trigger Warning — Sexual Crime: New developments have emerged in connection with the Kerala man who accused Mollywood director Ranjith of sexual misconduct. An FIR was registered against the filmmaker earlier in the day based on the man’s allegations. Now, the accuser has made yet another shocking claim. He alleges that Ranjith sent the man’s nude photos to actress and WCC member Revathi.
According to The Week, the Kerala man claimed the incident occurred in 2012. Ranjith allegedly sexually harassed the man forced him to undress himself, and took photos of him. The man claimed Ranjith informed him that he was allegedly sending the photos to Revathi.
The report mentioned that in his complaint to the DGP, the victim claimed that Ranjith was under the influence of alcohol and harassed him. “When Ranjith told me to stand naked, he was talking to an actress. I have already revealed the name of that actress—Revathi. Ranjith told me it was Revathi. I don’t know if there is any relationship between Ranjith and Revathi, but Ranjith took my photos and sent them to her,” the accuser claimed.
“When I asked who the photos were being sent to, Ranjith said they were sent to Revathi, adding that she liked what she saw. This incident happened during the location pack-up of the movie ‘Bavuttiyude Namathil.’ The director was present there in connection with the audio launch of the movie or some other related event,” the man added.
Revathi and Ranjith are yet to address these claims.
The new allegations have come just days after a Bengali actress accused Ranjith of sexually harassing her during the auditions for his 2009 film Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha. Ranjith reacted to the claims and counter-accused the actress of spreading lies.
It should be noted that Ranjith is also the chairman of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy – a government initiative to promote Malayalam cinema.
Ranjith is not the only director who has courted controversy during the new wave of MeToo movement in Malayalam cinema. Actor Mukesh has been accused of rape and an FIR has been registered against him as well. Even actor Jayasurya faces an FIR in a sexual crime case.
The cases of sexual assault in the Malayalam film industry are being reported ever since the findings of the Justice Hema Committee Report were made public earlier this month. Several actresses have accused male members of the industry of harassing them.
