The upcoming Karate Kid: Legends is directed by Jonathan Entwistle and written by Rob Lieber.

Karate Kid: Legends marks the sixth installment in the beloved Karate Kid franchise, following the 2010 film. Starring Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, the movie features Ben Wang in the lead role. The much-anticipated first trailer for this American martial arts film has finally been released, sparking excitement among fans who are eagerly celebrating this new chapter in the iconic series.

Variety magazine reported that Sony Pictures, through which the film has been getting distributed, released the first trailer for the newest movie, starring Chan and Macchio, at New York Comic Con (an annual New York City fan convention dedicated to Western comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, cosplay, toys, movies, and television) on Friday night. Apart from the legendary stars, the upcoming movie will introduce a new student named Li Fong, played by Ben Wang. The little boy is skilled in several forms of martial arts, including karate, wing chun/kung fu, gumdo, Kempo and taekwondo.

The film Karate Kid: Legends will hit the theatres on May 30, 2025, and fans are eagerly anticipating its release. At New York Comic Con, the exclusive trailer previewed electrifying karate action featuring the film’s trio stars. Ralph Macchio, Jackie Chan, and newcomer Ben Wang as Li Fong. The action-packed trailer showcased heart-pumping fight scenes in streets and dojos and a thrilling new karate tournament. It also had Li Fong’s impressive stunt skills, including a daring alleyway battle where he swings off a fire escape ladder and flips off the wall. All these left fans eager for more.

The American martial arts film is the first in a series of five that wasn’t produced by Jerry Weintraub, who died in 2015. For context, the prequels of the newest martial arts films were The Karate Kid (1984), The Karate Kid Part II (1986), The Karate Kid Part III (1989), and The Next Karate Kid (1994), although Macchio did not return for the fourth film. Yet again, Macchio made a comeback in his role as Daniel LaRusso.

Chan reprised his role as Mr Han, the kung fu master, as shown in the 2010 remake of the series’s first film. Undoubtedly, watching them together again will be a moment of nostalgia for their fans and other film buffs.

Besides them, Mulan star Ming-Na Wen will be seen as the mother of Wang’s character alongside Joshua Jackson as Victor and Shaunette Renée Wilson as Ms. Morgan. Additionally, Jennifer-Lyn Christie, Aramis Knight, Sadie Stanley, and Wyatt Oleff will also appear in Jonathan Entwistle’s directorial.
