Harry Potter Magic Returns To China: All 8 Films to Hit Theatres Starting October 11
The Harry Potter movies will be amongst the primary Hollywood productions to be shown in Chinese theatres following the October 1 or National Day vacations.

Potterheads in China are in for a real treat as Harry Potter films make a return to theatres. All 8 films of the series will be re-released in theatres in China, starting October 11. The screening will start with Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone as the first movie and the rest will follow weekly.

Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio that owns the franchise, informed Variety that the films will premiere through about 3,400 theatres in 295 Chinese cities. Potterheads will be able to delve into the world of Hogwarts again and see the story of the ‘Boy Who Lived’ on the big screen once more.

“This release marks a significant milestone for the ‘Harry Potter’ film series, as it is the first time all eight films will be available consecutively at such a large scale in any territory,” the studio informed Variety.

The movies will be screened in 2D format, and IMAX, CINITY, and Dolby Cinemas.

The Harry Potter movies were released between 2001 and 2011, a period over which multiplexes had just begun to be established in China. For many Chinese cinema lovers, the Harry Potter series was among the first Western fantasy-drama movies.

Kurt Rieder, president of Warner Bros. Discovery’s APAC theatrical distribution, was quoted by Variety stating, “There is a whole generation of Chinese audiences, however, which have not had the chance to enjoy the ‘Harry Potter’ movies in theatres.” He was giving a speech on Thursday in Indonesia at the APOS media and entrainment conference.

Here’s the schedule of the re-release:

October 11: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

October 18: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

October 25: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

November 1: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

November 8: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

November 15: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

November 22: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

November 29: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

The movies are set to be amongst the primary Hollywood productions to be shown in Chinese theatres following the October 1 or National Day vacations. This is one of the most popular times of year to see films, and Chinese tentpole films of all stripes usually rule the box office around this time.
