Bobby Deol is a known name in Bollywood. He is the younger son of veteran star Dharmendra. He made his first on-screen appearance as a child artist in Dharmendra’s 1977 film Dharam Veer. It was his Hindi Cinema debut opposite Twinkle Khanna in 1995’s Barsat that projected him to stardom. The romantic musical drama, though commercially unsuccessful, earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut, marking the beginning of his career. Though the actor has gone through several ups and downs in his career, in the last few years, ever since he started doing negative roles in films, the audience began to see a new version of him. Barsaat (1995): This romantic movie was directed by Rajkumar Santosh, starring Bobby Deol and Twinkle Khanna. Both of them won the Filmfare awards in the Best Debut categories for their performance. Gupt – The Hidden Truth (1997): This action thriller movie directed by Rajeev Rai stars Bobby Deol, Kajol, and Manisha Koirala. Apart from this, Raj Babbar, Om Puri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Paresh Rawal, Dalip Tahil, Prem Chopra, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Sharat Saxena, Mukesh Rishi and Priya Tendulkar were also seen in the supporting roles. With its plot based on the novel Good Children Don’t Kill by Louis Thomas, it is considered as one of the best thriller films from Hindi cinema. It also became a hit at the box office after its release.
Soldier (1998): This action thriller film, directed by Abbas-Mustan starred Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta in lead roles. It was the first of many collaborations between Abbas-Mustan and Bobby Deol. After this film, Bobby became successful in creating his own identity in Bollywood. Preity Zinta was also awarded with the Zee cine award for Best Female debut. This movie was also inspired by a real incident that happened in Punjab where a woman’s forehead was branded with the message that her husband was a traitor.
Badal (2000): This action-thriller movie directed by Raj Kanwar starred Bobby Deol and Rani Mukherjee in lead roles with Amrish Puri in the film. It was also a commercial success and created a stir at the box office upon its release.
Bicchu (2000): This action-thriller film was directed by Guddu Dhanoa. Bobby Deol and Rani Mukherjee were in lead roles. It was a remake of the 1994 film Leon: The professional, which earned a good amount at the box office. The audience has also showered their love to Bobby and Rani for their performance.
Hamraaz (2002): This suspense-filled movie directed by the duo Abbas-Mustan featured Bobby Deol, Akshay Kumar and Ameesha Patel in lead roles. This film was the third collaboration between Bobby Deol and Abbas-Mustan. The film is inspired from the 1998 American film A perfect Murder and was remade in Tamil as Girivalam. It also created a stir at the box office upon its release.
