DYK Deadpool & Wolverine Director Shawn Levy Almost Directed The Flash For DC?
Shawn Levy, the director of the Night at the Museum film franchise, disclosed that he was on the verge of directing DC Comics' 2023 film, The Flash

Shawn Levy is known for his impeccable direction in science fiction films like Real Steel and The Adam Project. His upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine, scheduled for release on July 26, is perhaps the most anticipated film of the year. The movie, which is Disney Marvel Studios’ first R-rated release, has already secured close to 8 million dollars in just the first-day ticket sales. The hype around Deadpool & Wolverine has added to Shawn Levy’s fame. Today, he is one of the most sought-after directors, especially for superhero films.

Recently, Shawn Levy, the director of the Night at the Museum film franchise, disclosed that he was on the verge of directing DC Comics’ 2023 film, The Flash. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Levy mentioned that while he is frequently offered intellectual property (IP) films, he often declines them due to the lack of a compelling storyline. He said, “I get offered some IP-based movie every week, and, as you’ve noticed from a lack of announcements, I pretty much always turn them down because I need to feel that I see a story worth telling.” He then mentioned that he was considered to direct The Flash for “a brief moment in time.” Ultimately, The Flash went to Andrés Muschietti, who is best known for directing It Chapter One and It Chapter Two.

Back in May this year, Shawn Levy spoke about how he was approached by none other than Ryan Reynolds to direct Deadpool & Wolverine. He said that Ryan Reynolds approached him when they were shooting the 2022 film The Adam Project. Shawn Levy recalled the moment and said, “I remember him (Ryan Reynolds) saying, ‘I know you’re gonna say no, but I’m really going to try and talk you into it.’ And my response was, ‘I’m not gonna say no, are you kidding? It’s a hard and immediate yes, sir!’”

Shawn Levy expressed great enthusiasm about accepting the opportunity to direct Deadpool & Wolverine, reflecting on his past decision when he declined to direct The Wolverine. He admitted regret over rejecting The Wolverine previously, especially since actor Hugh Jackman had personally asked him to direct it during the filming of the 2011 movie Real Steel. At that time, Levy had preferred to focus on creating original films rather than sequels. The Wolverine, released in 2013, marked the sixth installment in the X-Men film series.
