Vidya Balan has time and again proved that she can transform herself to whichever character she is given. Her last few films may not have done well, but the actress does not shy away from experimenting. Her latest, Begum Jaan, has her playing a madam of a brothel located on the Indo-Pak border during the Partition era. The trailer has Vidya and other actors mouthing expletives and performing some bold scenes.
A remake of Srijit Mukherji's Rajkahini, the film marks Mukherji's debut in Bollywood. The filmmaker, already a National Award winning director, forays in Bollywood with a period saga. He has already proved his mettle in Bengali film industry and with Begum Jaan, hopes to make it big in Bollywood as well.
Will Begum Jaan bring back Vidya to the top? Will Srijit Mukherji be able to strike gold at the box office? Shomini Sen of News18.com is inside the theatre to find out.
