Bad Boys: Ride Or Die Is Breaking Global Box Office Records And How
Bad Boys: Ride or Die stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in lead roles.

The summer box office got a boost with the release of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which marked the Bad Boys series’ comeback after its final chapter in 2020. The franchise has sprung into our lives with the type of heart-pounding adventures that have made it a cultural mainstay, with the charismatic combo of Will Smith & Martin Lawrence driving the high-powered action and hilarity. It had a verified worldwide opening of $107.4 million (Rs 897.33 crore), including $56.5 million (approximately Rs 472.06 crore) on the domestic chart and an additional $50.9 million (approximately Rs 425.27 crore) in 60 foreign nations. The film was released on June 7.

The movie performed remarkably well. Although it benefited from being a part of an already popular series: the Bad Boys films have made more than $840 million (approximately Rs 7018.20 crores) worldwide, as per Forbes.

The most recent feature, Bad Boys For Life, topped predictions by opening with $62 million (approximately Rs 518.01 crore) in 2020.

The movie succeeds even though Will Smith was shunned by the industry following the Slapgate incident at Oscars.

To save the summer box office, all eyes had been on Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, Illumination’s Despicable Me 3 and Pixar’s Inside Out 2.

Though it was mostly overlooked, Bad Boys 4 may now go down in history as the movie that revived the box office business.

The Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Thomas Rothman, told The Hollywood Reporter (THR) that “people needed to be reminded how much fun it can be to go to the movies.”

According to Rothman, word-of-mouth is already demonstrating that. So far, he claims, every day has exceeded their projections.

According to Paul Dergarabedian of Comscore, this mainly underappreciated title represents a watershed moment in the comeback of the turbulent 2024 summer season, THR reports.

Only four US films have opened at $100 million (approximately Rs 835.50 crore) or more globally this year, including Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Dune: Part Two in March, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in May. Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is the fourth.

The Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah-directed action sequel was expected to gross $30 million (approximately Rs 250.65 crore) at opening weekend, far less than the $45 million (approximately Rs 375.98 crore) to $50 million (approximately Rs 417.75 crore) industry projections.
