UP Farmer Commits Suicide, Blames BJP Leader for Land Grab in Note; Wife Seeks Justice from CM
After receiving the complaint from Babu Singh Yadav’s wife on Sunday, the police registered a case of abetment to suicide and cheating against Priya Ranjan Diwakar and five others

Despite the Uttar Pradesh government having zero-tolerance policy towards the land sharks and mafias, a farmer in Kanpur district committed suicide on Sunday by jumping in front of a speeding train, and blamed a local BJP leader in the suicide note, addressed to the CM, for allegedly grabbing his agricultural land.

Ashok Chaubey, station in-charge, said a case of abetment to suicide and cheating has been registered against Priya Ranjan Diwakar, his relative Jitendra, driver Babu, Rahul Jain, Madhur Pandey and Shivam Singh Chauhan based on the complaint filed by Babu Singh Yadav’s wife, Bittan Devi.

Yadav was a farmer from Chakeri area of Kanpur district, which is around 80 km from Lucknow. The suicide note, which the police recovered from him, blamed two others along with the BJP leader, for the land grab.

Yadav had alleged that Diwakar had grabbed his 6.5 bigha of agricultural land after giving him a fake cheque of Rs 6.29 crore. “Honourable Yogi ji, my complaint is that in your own state, your own party members do not follow your own laws. If possible, please get the justice done to my children,” the suicide note read.

His family members too blamed the local BJP leaders for grabbing the land that was at a prime location. “The local leader was eyeing the piece of land owned by my husband. Initially, we were reluctant to sell the land but then we made up our mind, thinking that the money could help us give a decent life to our children and help them in their higher studies and marriage. It’s for the same reason we got ready to sell the land but we never thought that he would dupe us without giving a single penny. I am sure that Yogi ji will do justice in the matter,” said his wife.
