Pitru Paksha is an important period in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to honouring the deceased ancestors and paying respects to them. The Pitru Paksha period is going on right now. After it completes, Sarva Pitru Amavasya is on the new moon day of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin. On this day, tarpan, shraddha, pinddaan etc. are performed for all types of ancestors. The shraddha karma of all those ancestors whose death date is not known, is performed on Sarva Pitru Amavasya. On this day, the shraddha of the deceased on the full moon date is also performed. According to the Sarva Pitru Amavasya 2024 Panchang, Ashwin Krishna Amavasya Tithi this year begins on Tuesday, October 1 at 9:39 pm. Amavasya Tithi is in effect until 12:18 pm on Wednesday, October 2. In such a situation, Sarva Pitru Amavasya based on Udayatithi is on Wednesday, October 2.

This year, 3 auspicious yogas are formed on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya. Brahma yoga starts in the morning and continues till 3:22 am the next day, October 3. After that, Indra yoga starts.

Apart from that, Sarvartha Siddhi yoga starts at 12:23 am on this day and continues till 6:15 am on October 3. On the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya, Uttaraphalguni Nakshatra is from morning till 12:23 am. After that, Hasta Nakshatra is there.

On the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya, you can perform the work of shraddh, pinddaan and donation for your ancestors anytime between 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM. On the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya, people perform tarpan and donation after bathing in holy rivers.
