How Drinking Excessive Sugarcane Juice In Summer Harms Your Body
Overindulging in sugarcane juice can lead to adverse effects such as nausea, vomiting, lethargy, and abdominal pain.

Do you frequently sip on various juices during the intense heat, particularly juice from sugarcane, and plenty of it? In that case, you need to be cautious right now. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research’s most recent guidelines, excessive consumption of sugarcane juice during the summer might have numerous negative effects. Nothing else can satisfy your thirst in place of water, according to the recommendations.

You should cut back on your consumption of sugarcane juice right away if you prefer sugarcane juice more because your body can suffer from it. How does the body react negatively to excessive sugarcane juice consumption? To know the exact reason, News18 talked with Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, the founder and director of an American nutrition company, focusing on this subject.

According to Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, sugarcane juice contains natural sugar which can be advantageous to us. Apart from this, Policosanol chemical is also present in it. Policosanol is unique in that it facilitates the breakdown of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), which facilitates its easy removal from the body by lowering the amount of cholesterol produced in the liver. However, policosanol harms the digestive system if an excessive amount of it is present in the body. Thus, overindulging in sugarcane juice can lead to adverse effects such as nausea, vomiting, lethargy, and abdominal pain.

Diabetes patients should avoid consuming excessive amounts of sugarcane juice due to its high glycemic load, according to Dr Rohatgi. Their blood sugar level may therefore rise if they drink too much sugarcane juice. Conversely, those without diabetes will be more likely to develop insulin resistance.

She advises those who suffer from fatty liver disease to minimise their intake of sugarcane juice. Since sugarcane juice may exacerbate fatty liver. The majority of individuals in India are afflicted with fatty liver disease. On the other hand, sugarcane juice’s high carbohydrate content is well known. Carbohydrates make up the majority of calories. Consuming more sugarcane juice will cause you to gain weight because it contains calories that you won’t burn off.

Since sugarcane juice draws water from the body, excessive consumption should be avoided during the heat. Sugarcane juice has higher sugar level, so one needs to be aware of this if you drink too much of it. This implies that for sugarcane juice to be metabolised or digested, a higher concentration of carbohydrates will be present. A deficiency of water in the body may result from excessive summertime consumption. You will have to deal with a lot of other issues in the summer because of dehydration.

Sugarcane juice can generate enterotoxins, so cleanliness should be considered when consuming it, as per Dr Priyanka Rohatgi. If hygiene is not maintained it can create bacteria. This bacteria can lead to staphylococcus infections when it enters the stomach. As a result, the recommendation states that summertime sugarcane juice consumption should be reduced. In addition, limit your intake of soft drinks and other beverages with added sugar. Drink buttermilk, lemonade, fresh fruit juice, coconut water, etc. in place of these items.
