She said that her weight was 96 kilograms when she was in college. She said it was because of a hormonal disorder.

Celebrities like Sonam Kapoor and Victoria Beckham were diagnosed with PCOD in the past but eventually overcame the disorder with changes in their lifestyle.

Have your periods been irregular or are you struggling with losing those extra pounds you recently gained? Hair loss and acne have become your new friends in town as they visit you often though.

This isn’t just any other health issue. These could be the signs of Poly Cystic Ovarian Disorder (PCOD). It is a condition that affects a woman’s hormone levels. Women with PCOD produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones.

This hormone imbalance causes them to skip menstrual periods and makes it harder for them to get pregnant. PCOD can lead to increased risk of some serious medical health issues for women down the road, so it's important to know the symptoms and get the right treatment and diagnosis. Many women have PCOD but they don’t know about it.

It is a health problem that affects one in 10 women of childbearing age and up to 70 percent of women with PCOD don't get diagnosed.

Apart from weight gain issues, PCOD has several other major and minor symptoms.

Minor being facial hair, acne, mood swings and lethargy. Major issues being infertility, pelvic pain, painful periods, disturbed menstrual cycle and high blood pressure.

Following up with a doctor is the only option as the treatment differs at various degrees. However, changes in lifestyle can also tackle PCOD.

The major part of our lifestyle is influenced by our eating habits. Fast foods can escalate this disorder. Leafy vegetables contain potassium, iron calcium and minerals which are needed to combat PCOD.

Colourful food is the key here. Foods rich in anti-oxidants help manage PCOD therefore aim for including bright vegetables like red and yellow bell peppers, sweet potatoes, brinjals and beetroots in your daily diet.

If you are suffering from Polycystic Ovaries then you must avoid processed foods, canned juices, soda, high GI foods like mashed potatoes, corn, chips, cookies and candies.

Workout, stressing less and an active lifestyle is important as mentioned by Sara Ali Khan too.

So stressing won’t get you out of this, but what will get you out is the tips above and frequent medical attention.
