ICC World Cup 2023: Haris Rauf Most Bizarre Bowling Record as Pakistan Get Eliminated
Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf set an unwanted record for conceding the most runs in a single edition of a World Cup.

Fast bowler Haris Rauf ended the World Cup 2023 with a bizarre record as Pakistan lost their final league-stage game to England on Saturday. Though he managed to pick up three wickets against the defending champions, his overall performance in the tournament has raised quite a few eyebrows.

Rauf set an unwanted record for conceding the most runs in a single edition of a World Cup. The right-arm pacer ended up conceding 527 runs in 9 matches, going past the previous record of 526 runs by England leg-spinner Adil Rashid in 2019.

Despite bagging 15 wickets in the tournament, Rauf couldn’t control leaking runs. In games, Rauf conceded 533 runs at an economy rate of 6.74. He is now the fourth bowler to concede more than 500 runs in a single edition of the World Cup.

Disappointed but keen to lead in rebuilding: Babar Azam

Pakistan entered the ODI World Cup 2023 as one of the favourite sides, given the number of star players the side boasted. Even the skipper, Babar Azam, was confident of a happening campaign with a world-class bowling attack which he termed as the strength of the team. But unlike what was expected, Pakistan had a horrendous trip to India. Four losses on the trot dented their momentum and the side was finally knocked out on Saturday.

On Saturday, the skipper didn’t hide his disappointment after a humiliating 93-run defeat but hinted that he would like to lead the national team during its rebuilding phase in white-ball cricket.

“We will sit together and take stock. We’ll take positives from this and discuss mistakes. I’m keen to lead the rebuild,” Babar said at the post-match presentation ceremony,” Babar Azam said in the post-match presentation.

Pakistan couldn’t qualify for the semi-finals of the 50-over World Cup for the third consecutive time.

“Yes, very disappointed with the performance. If we had won the South Africa match, it could have been a different story. But yes, have made mistakes in bowling, batting and fielding,” Babar summed up his team’s campaign where they lost five out of nine games.
