BANGALORE: The much awaited dedicated bicycle lane work was initiated by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Wednesday in Bangalore. Jayanagar will be the first area in the city to get a dedicated bicycle lane along the road.Jayanagar MLA B N Vijay Kumar laid the foundation at his constituency. Speaking on the occasion, Standing Committee Chairman for Town Planning C K Ramamurthy said that it will take another one-and-half month to complete the work which is estimated to cost around Rs 2.5 crore. Explaining further Ramamurthy said that they will paint in white colour for one and half meter width on either side of the road where cycles can move. Even when bicycle riders want to cross the road, they will get a dedicated space. “We are planning to have a similar space like zebra crossing, where pedestrians are allowed to cross roads,” he added.Further Ramamurthy explained that they are also planning to construct bicycle stands through the city, but where ever there is space. “This is meant only for bicycles. One cannot park two or four wheeler,” he said.
