The Madhya Pradesh State Women's Commission has recommended a blanket ban on skirts in schools and colleges in the state.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is among the states that tops the list of crimes against women. And if the State Women's Commission is to be believed, the women are to blame.

They feel women are so scantily dressed that men are provoked. And it wants skirts to be banned in schools and colleges.

"These dresses are anyway against our Indian culture and result in provoking men, hence we have decided to write to the Chief Minister asking him to ban skirts from schools and colleges," says Saroj Rajput, a member of the State Women's Commission.

The Commission says it has studied statistics and circumstance before asking for the ban.

But that doesn't wash with students. "Well, it is absolutely ridiculous. I don't think that wearing any sort of an attire is in any way associated with the rising crime against women," says Akanksha, a student.

The commission is also thinking of serving a notice to small screen serial maker Ektaa Kapoor. It contends that her soaps are polluting the mind of the young.
