Argentina will meet the No. 1 and defending champion Netherlands on Friday.

London: Argentina beat Britain 2-1 on Wednesday to reach the final of the women's Olympic field hockey for the second time, looking for its first gold medal.

The Argentines, holders of the World Cup and Champions Trophy and ranked No. 2, will meet the No. 1 and defending champion Netherlands on Friday.

Argentina took out the partisan crowd early on Wednesday when Noel Barrionuevo converted the only penalty corner of the half in the fifth minute.

Three minutes before halftime, Carla Rebecchi amazed the crowd when she fell over the goalkeeper, controlled the ball falling forward and hooked it inside the left post.

Britain, sloppy in the first half, dominated the attack in the second. Helen Richardson blew a free shot at goal in the 55th when she hit the ground but passed to Alex Danson to score in the 64th to revive British hopes and make for a tense finish with Kate Middleton looking on.

What's your reaction?
