Mumbai: Four men allegedly raped and set on fire a 25-year-old woman. The men who allegedly committed the crime were distant relatives of the girl who wanted to marry her.
Nitya Devenvdra, his brothers Rajesh and Kumar, and a friend Shankar Murliya gangraped the woman and then set her on fire. The woman named the men before dying of her wounds.
"In the investigation the facts will come out. At this moment it is enough that the police has arrested the four accused. We are now concentrating all efforts on investigating the seriousness of the case," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Baviskar.
Nitya and his accomplices allegedly barged into the woman's house on Monday night, raped her repeatedly, and then poured kerosene and set her on fire.
Nitya Devendra wanted to marry the victim four years ago, but the marriage proposal was rejected. However, relatives of the victim allege that Nitya continued to harass her.
"He used to threaten her and told her to leave everything and come to him," alleges the sister of the victim.
"The four of them forced her inside the room and then burnt her," alleges the mother of the victim.
In the days ahead the cops intend to extensively interrogate the accused to prepare a strong case for the trial ahead.
