New Delhi: In a major development in the death of Rajasthan farmer Gajendra Singh at the Aam Aadmi Party's anti-Land Bill rally in Delhi, investigators found two witnesses who claimed that Singh was instigated to climb the tree, said sources on Tuesday.
Sources added that police are still ascertaining the facts and verifying the eyewitness account and are also scanning television channel footage to corroborate the statements. Sources indicated that initial probe hinted towards the death being an accident.
Singh's family, however, alleged a conspiracy and has blamed the AAP for the tragic incident. Meanwhile, Delhi Police in its FIR has named AAP leaders named for abetting suicide.
Delhi Police Crime Branch came to the conclusion after the statement of two people and his family members. One of them is from Dwarka whom Singh called when he came from Kurukshetra. The second person is whom Singh promised to meet in the next two days. The third is the family statement that Singh called them to watch TV.
In a tragic turn of events, Singh committed suicide on April 22 at AAP's anti-Land Bill rally in Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Singh climbed a neem tree near the AAP rally venue, tied a piece of cloth around his neck and the other was tied on a branch and then jumped. Even though AAP volunteers tried to stop the farmer from committing the act, brought him down from the tree and rushed him to a hospital but he could not be saved.
According to the FIR, AAP workers and supporters abetted the suicide of Singh. Investigators said their probe reveals that AAP workers stopped police from sending the victim to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital while insisting that he was a party member and should not be taken in police van which resulted in considerable delay.
