WESCO slaps notice on defaulters

BHAWANIPATNA:  Largescale power theft and low revenue recovery have put WESCO in financial trouble, said CEO of WESCO G Gopal Reddy on Wednesday. WESCO had invested Rs 120 crore in purchasing power from Gridco. However, with around 50 per cent of the power pilfered, the company is finding it difficult to cope with the financial loss. The revenue recovered varies between 50 to 64 per cent, Reddy said.
To questions on frequent disruptions in electricity supply in and around Bhawanipatna, Reddy said normalcy could be restored only after the underconstruction Bhawanipatna grid station starts functioning. However, construction of the grid station is in the preliminary stage with only the boundary walls being constructed till now. Presently, power is supplied from Kesinga grid station, around 35 km from Bhawanipatna. Last year, the Kesinga grid station was renovated and a new conductor installed to improve power supply. However, the desired outcome is yet to be achieved.

Meanwhile, WESCO has embarked upon a recovery drive with defaulters apprised of the outstanding amount payable. This includes arrears from the days of Orissa State Electricity Board, before the formation of WESCO.
