The monsoon season is at its peak, with rains lashing most parts of India. Delhi witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday triggering severe water logging in several areas across the national capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more downpours over Delhi-NCR.
According to the IMD, generally cloudy sky and light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms are likely over the Delhi-NCR for the next 3-4 days.
24 Die In Rain Related Incidents In Tripura
Incessant rainfall has wreaked havoc in the Northeastern state of Tripura. The death toll due to heavy rainfall, floods and landslide incidents rose to 24 on Friday evening. The troubles for the state are likely to escalate as the Met Department has forecast very heavy rainfall over Tripura during the next 6-7 days. The IMD has also issued a red alert for the state on August 25 forecasting extremely heavy rainfall.
Addressing a press conference, Disaster Management Secretary Brijesh Pandey said that the rains have caused extensive damage to roads, power infrastructure, agriculture, properties and livestock, which is estimated to be around Rs 5,000 crore. A total of 1,28,00 people have taken shelter in 558 relief camps.
IMD Issues Red Alert For Gujarat
Meanwhile, IMD has issued a red alert for Gujarat on Saturday’s extremely heavy rainfall from August 24 to August 2. Extreme rains are also likely to hit Saurashtra and Kutch on August 26 and 27.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gangatic West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur on August 24, 2024.

The Met Department has also forecast heavy rainfall over North Interior Karnataka on Saturday. Heavy downpours are also likely over Coastal Karnataka from August 24 to August 26 and over Kerala and Mahe from August 24 to August 29, 2024.
