BANGALORE: Bangalore residents are aware that water, especially the the water supplied by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), is precious. If the water leak on Palace Road is anything to go by, it seems the BWSSB officials are yet to realise the value of water. Why else will they ignore a leak in a water pipe for the last eight months?Residents say that BWSSB replaced a water pipe on Palace Road eight months ago. But asphalt road was not laid as per norms. So, the pipe got damaged when a heavy vehicle passed through that road. “We have brought it to the notice of BWSSB several times but in vain. I expect them to repair the damaged water pipe as early as possible. Our customers find it difficult to visit our showroom due to the slush in front of the showroom gate,” said Antony Juwan, manager (administration), India Garage Indane Division. The constant leak, consequently the slush, has made it difficult for the pedestrians to pass on that stretch without getting splashed in the dirty water. “The leak remains unattended for many months. To avoid wastage of drinking water, I request the BWSSB authorities to repair the damaged pipe immediately,” said K Subramani, a resident of Vasanthnagar.Echoing a similar opinion, C R Raveesh, Traffic Police Inspector, High Grounds Police Station, said that he brought this issue to the notice of the BWSSB authorities. “I brought this to the notice of BWSSB authorities four months ago. They promised to do the needful. I expect them to take necessary measures immediately,” said Raveesh.P L Amrutesh, executive engineer, (North division), BWSSB, said that the problem will be attended to as early as possible. “We are planning to shutdown water supply on November 9 to repair the damaged water supply pipe,” said Amrutesh.
