BANGALORE: Bangaloreans may have to wait for some more time to see the Metro train chugging though it has cleared some major hurdles. In a major relief, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on Monday granted permission to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to conduct Oscillation and Emergency Brake Distance Trials for the Metro rail.Bangalore Metro got the remaining four rules published in the Government of India Gazette also May 25. The Bangalore Metro Railway (Carriage and Ticket) Rules, 2011;The Bangalore Metro Railway (Procedures for Investigation of Misbehaviour or Incapacity of Claims Commissioner) Rules, 2011; The Bangalore Metro Railway (Procedures for Claims) Rules, 2011 and The Bangalore Metro Railway (Notice of Accidents Inquiries) Rules, 2011 have been published by the Central government. Earlier, two rules had got gazetted. The trial will be conducted by the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO), Lucknow. On Tuesday afternoon, the RDSO got the mail from BMRCL requesting conducting the trials. "We received the communication requesting for conducting the trials this afternoon [Tuesday]," RDSO Executive Director (Admin) A K Mathur."As part of the trials, we will basically be working on certain parameters to define a safe operational speed for Bangalore Metro rail," Mathur added. What now?Metro has to once again get a new speed certificate as RDSO found certain flaws with the track structure and schedule of dimension(SOD) of Namma Metro. Now, the RDSO team that will bring its own specially designed coach to conduct various speed tests and evaluate it with the design. After RDSO issues the speed certificate, BMRCL will have to approach the Commissioner of Railway Safety to conduct the safety inspection. However, even before the CRS can conduct the safety inspection, as per the Metro rules, BMRCL has still will have to conduct a 2,500 km trial run.Earlier in January, it started conducting the trials but owing to the SOD issue, it will now have to start the full run trial for the rail again.BMRCL, however, is optimistic that it will be able to complete the 2,500 km run on the 6.7 km stretch."Yes, we will have to conduct the 2,500 km trial run after we are issued the speed certificate. However, it can be completed soon," BMRCL Engineer and Spokesperson B L Y Chavan said.
