PARADIPA: Nuagaon villagers allegedly roughed up Posco DGM and four workers on Tuesday. They were protesting non-payment of compensation and labour charges.The injured official was rushed to Kujang Primary Health Centre, while two cases have been registered with Kujang police station.Reports said Posco officials led by DGM S N Singh and IDCO GM Sangram Mohapatra were at Nuagaon village for felling trees and demolishing a prawn gheri under Badghaipai forest committee. Demanding compensation to seven beneficiaries towards demolition of betel vines, the villagers stalled work. However, when the officials went ahead with the felling of trees violence erupted. The villagers alleged that the Posco officials misbehaved with them when they demanded compensation for betel vines, cashewnut trees and prawn gheries. The Posco DGM and four machine cutters were injured in the retaliatory attack, they added. Nearly 15,000 fruit-bearing trees under Badghaipai forest committee were felled last month. Questioning the compensation demand of the villagers, the IDCO GM said the company had already paid ` 50 lakh for demolished prawn gheries.While Singh has accused Adhikand Rout of attacking him in his FIR, a worker has lodged a complaint against one Akshya Samal.Kujang police station IIC Gupteswar Bhoi said two cases had been registered and investigation was on.
