THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two officers of the inspector rank, posted at different check posts at Velanthavalam in Palakkad district, were caught consuming liquor while on duty in a surprise raid conducted by the Vigilance and AntiCorruption Bureau (VACB).
The officers were identified as inspector Anilakumar posted at the Animal Husbandry check post and Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspector Vijayan. A halffinished bottle of liquor was also seized from Anilakumar by the Vigilance officials.The raids were a part of the statewide surprise raids conducted at all interstate border check posts under the directive of Vigilance Director Desmond Netto and led by Additional Director General of Police (Vigilance) Shankar Reddy.

Massive irregularities were unearthed at all the check posts, including Commercial, Forest, Excise and Animal Husbandry check posts. At Amaravila Commercial check post near Neyyattinkara here, the Vigilance team found out that vehicles carrying goods from Tamil Nadu were given relaxation in tax.

At Valayar, one of the major check posts on the KeralaTamil Nadu border in Palakkad, it was found that the RTO officials did not keep receipts of tax received from incoming vehicles. The weighing bridge at the check post was also found defunct following which a private weighing bridge is being used which, in turn, resulted in further irregularities.
