VELLORE: The Vellore District Small and Tiny Industries Association (VEDSTIA) has urged the Centre to allot adequate funds at the forthcoming Union Budget session to develop the infrastructure necessary to improve power transmission and grid connectivity facilities to help industries reeling under power shortage. The association has also suggested to the government that industries be allowed to buy power directly from private vendors. A plea in this regard has been submitted to the Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee by R Amirthakatesan, the president of VEDSTIA. He has also pointed out that the country should promote tapping energy from tidal waves, solar and windmills. For a 2MW solar power plant, the Centre should extend 90 per cent subsidy for micro industries and maximum support for solar lighting and irrigation. He suggested that the loan of upto `5 lakh given for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises should be given at an interest rate of six per cent and that the interest rate can be nine per cent for loans over ` 5lakh. Another suggestion by the association is to free the MSME sector from the purview of the labour act, taxation act and ESI act.
