BANGALORE: The 14th Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) Karnataka State Faculty Convention concluded in the city on Saturday with calls for improving technology and bridging the technological gap which exists in education. “The technological gap is widening day by day in education. The universities have to lead the way forward by driving technological change,” Prof H P Khincha, Chairman, Innovation Council and former Vice-Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), said. “Countries like China and Japan are leading with the technological revolution. We should not get left behind,” he observed. Prof D Jawahar, Chief Executive Officer, PES Institutions, Bangalore, who presided over the valedictory programme, concurred with Prof Khincha’s ideas. He said, “Teachers have to change their mindsets. If technology has to become a comprehensive part of our education system, it is up to teachers.”Started in 1941 as Association of Principals of Technical Institutions (APTI), the Indian Society for Technical Education is a national, professional, non-profit society registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. The association was converted into Indian Society for Technical Education in 1968 with a view to enlarge its activities to advance the cause of technological education in the country.
