NAGAPATTINAM: Vailankanni, the world famous Christian pilgrim town in Nagapattinam district is all set for the 11-day annual festival scheduled to commence on Monday evening with the hoisting of the holy flag. The festival concludes on September 8, the Birthday of the Lady of Good Health. Bishop of Thanjavur hoists the flag.Procession of the Lady of Good Health will take place in the evenings. Lakhs of devotees throng the Vailankanni shrine during festival days (August 29-September 8) to thank the Lady of Good Health for making their dreams come true. This year, a large number of devotees have undertaken padayatra from various parts of the state.Special medical teams have been deployed at seven places at Vailankanni to provide assistance to the pilgrims. District Collector T Munusamy has said that arrangements have been made for pure drinking water, sanitation, lighting and transport for the convenience of the pilgrims. TNSTC has arranged for special buses from Madurai, Karur, Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Chidambaram and the Union Territory of Puducherry. SETC has arranged for special buses from Chennai. Southern Railway is operating special trains from Mumbai, Vasco-da-gama and Chennai.
