Admitting that there are a large number of vacancies both in teaching and non-teaching staff in the state-owned Mysore and Mandya Medical college of Sciences, medical education minister S A Ramadas assured the House of complying with the norms of the Medical Council of India in the appointments.
To a question by independent legislator Marithibbegowda during the question hour in the Council on Monday, the minister informed that as many as 130 teaching posts are vacant as against the sanctioned posts of 240 in the Mysore Medical Colelge.
In the Mandya Medical Colleges of Sciences, as many as 74 teaching posts are vacant. Informing the House that the state government has submitted a memorandum to the MCI to increase the seats in Mysore Medical College from the present 150 to 250 and in the Mandya Medical college from 100 to 150, the minister has assured the house of taking measures to fill the vacancies within three months in accordance with the norms mandated by the MCI.
Earlier, Marithibbegowda strongly criticised the government for not taking any measures to fill the vacancies in both the colleges. He said that only 91 posts for nurses have been recruited as against the required strength of 255.
Gowda also informed that among the non-teaching staff, the posts of chief administrator, economic advisers, lady medical officers, radiographers and dental technicians have been vacant for a long time.
The member also wondered about the quality of teaching being imparted by such a skeleton staff.
