Faizabad: A Senior Sub Inspector (SSI) of Uttar Pradesh Police was arrested for allegedly abducting and attempting to rape a minor girl, who was rescued from his possession in a hotel in Faizabad, police said on Thursday.
On the complaint by the girl's family, police team raided a hotel in Rakabganj area of the city and arrested SSI Man Singh after rescuing the girl from his possession on Wednesday night, police said. Singh was posted as an SSI at Akbarpur Kotwali police station of neighbouring Ambedkar Nagar district, they said.
According to police, Singh forcefully brought the girl, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, to Faizabad on Wednesday on the ground that she had to appear before the DIG of Faizabad range regarding a case lodged in Akbarpur Kotwali police station.
Singh held the minor hostage in a hotel and tried to rape her, police said adding, the girl managed to inform her family members about her location through a mobile phone SMS. On the information provided by the girl's family, a team of Faizabad police rescued her and arrested the alleged SSI, they said.
The girl had been sent to hospital for medical examination. The Sub Inspector has been arrested and suspended from duty, police said.
