THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Admitting that the government owes the farmers Rs 315 crore, Supplyco managing director A P M Mohammed Haneesh told Express: “We expect the Centre to sanction Rs 80 crore within one or two days. Of the remaining Rs 235 crore, Rs 117 crore is state contribution and Rs118 crore central share. In other words, from the minimum support price of Rs15 announced by the government, the central share is Rs 10.80 and that of the state Rs 4.20.” Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob said that the state government hoped to sort out the issue in a fortnight’s time.“We have placed a claim before the Centre for Rs 97 crore. We hope to raise the remaining amount shortly and settle the dues in the next 10-15 days,” Anoop said. Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan echoed the Food Minister’s promise that the debt would be repaid within two weeks.Attributing the delay in settling the farmer dues to the delay in receiving the central share, Mohanan said, “We have disbursed Rs 76 crore. We hope to disburse the remaining amount by this month-end.”
