VIJAYAWADA: A special training institute to impart training to junior lectures and help them improve their skills, being set up by the state government in Medak district close to the state capital at a cost of Rs 15 crore, will become functional in the new year.This was revealed by secondary education minister Kolusu Parthasarathi at a press conference here on Saturday. He said the government was determined to usher in reforms in the education sector. Jumbling system will be followed while conducting practical examinations in government colleges from the next academic year. About 355 model schools will be established at a cost of Rs 1,050 crore to raise the standards of education at government schools. Syllabus would be prepared on the lines of the national and international syllabi to raise standards, he said.The infrastructure in government junior colleges will be improved and additional classrooms built. New buildings for government colleges will be constructed under the State Secondary Siksha Abhiyan. Parthasarathi said Rs 75,000 was sanctioned for each school to set up a kitchen to prepare food under the mid-day meal scheme. Construction of kitchens has been entrusted to the panchayat raj department.Speaking about developmental works in Krishna district, the minister said that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy agreed to set up a super-specialty hospital at Vijayawada. Five acres of the existing government hospital land would be alienated for the purpose, he said.The four-laning of the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada state highway will be completed in four years. The tender process has been completed. On the Rs 2,000-crore Vijaya Krishna Sagar tourism project in the Krishna downstream the Prakasam barrage proposed by the urban development authority, he said a decision would be taken soon. Discussions were held on the project with UDA and irrigation officials in Hyderabad on December 27, the minister added.
